Domaine Chanzy

Made of the Aligoté grape, Bouzeron is a wine we always like to feature on our wine list. The grape often plays second fiddle to Chardonnay despite being planted in proximity to its noble sister in most part of Burgundy. Yet in Bouzeron, the grape has been given a rare chance to shine by the authority when it was given a village appellation in 1997 “for its close association with history and quality” in the small village of some 145 people. Bouzeron is a clean, sharp and wonderfully thirst-quenching wine with a price tag a fraction of the price of most village wines from the other side of the Canal du Centre. The fact that Bouzeron is much closer to Chassagne-Montrachet than Chassagne is, for example, from Beaune, brings us back to the village over and over again when we find ourselves lodging in Côte de Beaune. Whenever we go back to Bouzeron, we always knock on the door of Domaine Chanzy, which has emerged to a status where it is inseparable from the appellation.
