Domaine Hervé Roumier
Among our selection of small and familial domaines located in Côte d’Or, Domaine Hervé Roumier in Chambolle-Musigny is the smallest. The terrible shock following the death of her husband a few years ago gave Veronique the strenuous task of working in the vineyard, managing the cellar and caring for her teenager daughter, all at the same time. The tough mother has since sensibly reduced the acreage on which she tends the vines to a more manageable size, and currently makes a microscopic quantity of no more than 9,000 bottles of some of the finest Burgundy, including well crafted Bonnes Mares and Clos de Vougeot, which more than do justice to the fame of the two Grand Crus. We have been fortunate enough to visit her domaine in different seasons of the year, and were pleased to realise that her daughter Clemence is doing well in her studies in Dijon. If anything gives us more joy than a bottle of Clos de Vougeot, it would be the knowledge of this small domaine, led by a resilient woman, to be flourishing.
