Domaine Stephane Magnien

Next door to the two superlative wine villages – Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny – north and south, Morey-Saint-Denis seems to receive disproportionately fewer tourists on a regular basis, despite the fact that the peaceful village boasts five Grand Crus to its name. For those in the know, however, this small village is perhaps one of the best kept secrets in Côte de Nuits for producing some of the finest wines for those who do not own a couple of Swiss bank accounts. Stéphane Magnien, as a viticulteur, is the fourth generation of a family who has worked in the area for centuries. According to the unpretentious domaine of 4.5 ha, the family house and the original cellars date from the time of the French Revolution. Stéphane, a father of twin girls, is pleased to take wine lovers down to the cool and dark cellars to taste a range of traditionally made and wonderfully priced Burgundies that starts with the basic Aligoté and ends with the highly rated Clos Saint Denis and Charmes-Chambertin Grand Crus, while his mother Marie-Odile take cares of the purchase orders that pour in from all over the world.
